Movie Night, 7 pm at United Food & Commercial Workers, Local 655, 300 Weidman Road in Ballwin. Free and open to the public, free refreshments and discussion to follow the film. For a cool, refreshing film in hot July, we are showing the Canadian documentary, Being Caribou. This award-winning film tells the story of a couple's honeymoon trip, where the wife-and-husband team walked/skied across 1,500 kilometers of the rugged area to follow a herd of 120,000 caribou. Wear your parkas and join in the Arctic fun.

A Literature Drop for Mike Garman, 9 am. There will be four locations: Maryland Heights, Eureka, Troy (Lincoln Co.), and O'Fallon (St. Charles Co.) Check on www.garmanforcongress.com under the Events tab for further details and exact locations.
This will be the largest literature drop we've ever had.  Give us three hours of your time on July 26th and we'll give you a new Democratic Congressman that truly represents the values and concerns of the people of the 2nd Congressional District.

Marty Ott is running for MO House District 86 and asks for donors and volunteers to help with her campaign.  She will hold a second town hall forum on Wednesday, July 16, at the Sachs Library at 7 PM.  An UMSL professor will address the state of the economy.  On July 27 a fund raiser will be held at Barbara Mitchell’s home.

21st Annual Equality Day Brunch: the celebration will feature Lilly Ledbetter (Ledbetter v. National Council of Jewish Women’s

Election Education Series

 

NCJW invites you to join in lively discussions with informative speakers about issues in the upcoming 2008 national and state elections. Come to one or all -no cost to attend!

 

August 20: PARTYTIME!!! Steve Sorkin will help to unravel the confusing and tangled web of the republican, democratic, green, reform and libertarian parties and what they all stand for. He'll teach us about the Electoral College, delegates, caucuses and the voting process. Marlene Hammerman, NCJW's National Board Representative will then introduce an NCJW national Initiative "Promote the Vote - Protect the Vote".

 

September 17: THE BALL'S IN YOUR COURT -  Judge Patricia Cohen will address the Presidents influence on the Supreme Court and the impact that your vote has on the process. She'll also explore the district and appellate courts, jurisdiction and the court of last resort.

 

October 15: UNDER THE INFLUENCE -- Eric Mink will discuss how the media influence our decisions in the voting booth and which ads are effective and which ones are downright deceptive and dangerous. We can debate the opinions of Rush Limbaugh and Jon Stewart and the influence they bring to the process.

 

November 19: Election 2008 Wrap Up -  Jo Mannies will give an overview of how It all played out. Who made mistakes and what techniques worked! What to look for in 2009, and beyond.

 

ALL SESSIONS ARE ON WEDNESDAYS, 11:45 am - 1 pm at NCJW offices, 8350 Delcrest (I-170 and Delmar), free and open to members and non-members.  There is no charge for the program. but please let us know that you are coming. Call the NCJW office at 314-993-5181 to register. Bring your lunch or pre-paid lunches are available for $10 with advance reservation (chef salad or turkey sandwich). Must order lunches at least one day in advance.

To find out which political township you live in, go to the St. Louis County Board of Elections website, http://www.co.st-louis.mo.us/scripts/elections/index.cfm   and type in your address.  Some townships have active Democratic clubs, and some don’t.  Here are some that do:

 

Creve Coeur Township Dem Club meets the 2nd Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Creve Coeur Govt Center, 300 N. Ballas Rd. between Ladue and Olive Street Rd.  Contact WCD member Stan Edelstein at (314) 878-6041.

 

Jefferson Township Club meets every last Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Shrewsbury City Center, 5200 Shrewsbury Ave. (From Murdoch, south on Shrewsbury 4 blocks until it dead-ends.)  For more info, WCD member Margaret Hasse, (314) 961-0272.
